Our Advice Process

Ensuring you have a simple and effective advice journey.

Financial Advice Process

On this page you will find the complete breakdown of our advice process, including the three meeting stages. We produce tailored and transparent advice based on the individual and our meeting process ensures that we know exactly what you need, what you are comfortable with and how we can add value.

A free 15 minute consultation on the phone to discuss your queries, needs and how we can help. We will then book a discovery meeting if our services align with your needs. You can book your meeting here

Step two in the process is a discovery meeting aimed at collecting all the relevant information about your circumstances. More information can be found further on this page under 'Discovery Meeting'.

Step 3 in our financial advice process is to conduct preliminary research which includes requesting third-party authorities from your super, pension and investment providers. We will also reach out to insurers where applicable to get the best terms for insurance clients. We will formulate a high level strategy and do comparisons to validate assumptions. In this step we are seeking to identify the value we can deliver to you.

Step 4 in our financial advice process is to discuss this high level strategy with you. For more information on your strategy meeting, refer to the next section.

Step 5 in the financial advice process is to create your formal and legal Statement of Advice (SOA) based on the agreed strategies in the Strategy Meeting.

Step 6 in the financial advice process is to formally meet to present and proceed with the recommendations. For more information on this meeting, view the 'Presentation Meeting' section of this page.

After your presentation meeting we will prepare all of the necessary paperwork to implement the agreed recommendations. This can take from a couple weeks to months depending on the complexity of your advice.

As part of our ongoing service and commitment to you we will meet annually for clients on ongoing service agreements. This meeting is aimed at reviewing your circumstances and adjusting strategies accordingly to meet your identified and documented objectives. We will also use this as an opportunity to identify any other potential areas of value we can provide.

Below we provide detail on the three primary initial advice meetings: Discovery Meeting, Strategy Meeting and Presentation Meeting. Each meeting serves as specific purpose on your financial advice journey.

Your first meeting is focused on collecting detailed information on your personal circumstances, needs, goals and objectives. A ‘Fact Find’ document that collects comprehensive information will be completed with your adviser.

You will also complete a risk questionnaire and a health details form if applicable. Keep in mind that your adviser will have the best opportunity to provide quality advice and identify potential solutions if you provide accurate and detailed information.

Pre-assessments can help you know upfront if you are likely to get an exclusion, loading or decline for Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Income Protection Insurance and Trauma Insurance, prior to going through all of the tests and requirements. Loadings and exclusions can have important trade-offs that you need to be aware of prior.

We aim to provide convenient flexibility on meeting locations. If you are located within 150km of Melbourne, we will typically host the first meeting at your home or office. Alternatively, we offer virtual meeting options if you have this preference. We strongly believe in building genuine relationships with clients, so we are always willing to meet in person where possible.

A new client discovery meeting with a financial planner typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the complexity of your scenario.

Hosting strategy meeting is an additional step in a typical advice process. It gives us the ability to discuss your strategy options and potential solutions to gauge your comfortability. Moreover, it gives your adviser the ability to identify any potential short-falls, trade-offs or additional opportunities you may be interested in pursuing.

We find this step is very successful in ensuring that your finalised advice is tailored exactly to your needs and wants. Your strategy meeting will be held over the phone or virtually as it typically takes 30 minutes to discuss these options and come to an agreement.

The exciting part is finally here! A presentation meeting is the formal delivery of your tailored financial advice. In this meeting, we will provide you with your Statement of Advice and any other complimentary documentation.

Your discussion will include a full breakdown of the advice, the trade-offs, benefits, costs and all other relevant details. Given you have already had a strategy meeting, you will find that there are no hidden surprises as the strategic direction has already been agreed. This meeting typically takes around 60 minutes and is conducted in person where possible.

At the conclusion of this meeting, you will complete paperwork and sign any relevant documentation for the recommendations that you want to proceed with. Dumont will then commence implementation of all agreed recommendations in the coming weeks and months.
